Mr. And Mrs. Smith was a hit action comedy that started out as a vehicle for Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie. What director Doug Liman and his team couldn't have known going in was that the "Brangelina" phenomenon would overwhelm their movie and be the start of a passionate, but ultimately controversial real-life relationship and marriage. We of course discussed all that gossip in episode #680, but we also spent time (well, some) hashing out the nutso plot of this fun motion picture. Stupid, but fun. The stars certainly have chemistry & megawatt sex appeal, which mixes pretty well with all the explosions and murder. Liman doesn't QUITE nail the cartoonish tone though, partly because it's never quite as funny or goofy as it's trying to be. And that ending is ridiculously abrupt. In any case, settle in for our talk about John & Jane and their comedically violent life as assassins...when they're not working on their humdrum marriage in couples therapy, that is.
