Dean Daughters creates the most amazing sample libraries that up until recently, were the best kept secret in the Music Industry. All that changed in the last couple of years as his sample packs exploded in popularity and he's now top of the mountain with some of the most popular packs out there.
He's also an amazing artist in his own right. Starting out as a drummer until a back injury forced him to quit, his funky roots remain firmly grounded in groove and his rhythm programming and feel for the funk is always fabulous. Releasing under the alias Prism Prime, he's had as much success on the dancefloor as he has on Beatport and the socials.
As at home with synths as he is with samplers, modulars and real percussion, the man is whirlwind of creativity and positivity. It wasn;t always like that though - as well as the music Dean shares his past struggle with alcohol and depression and how he used hard work and creativity to overcome his demons.
A super rare interview with one of my heroes - come get to know a day in the life of Dean Daughters from Electronisounds.
Brian Oliva kicked off his love of keys back in the sixties with an Ace Tone organ playing in a real 'garage band', well before Apple reappropriated the term for its music starter software. A youthful lack of cash followed by a long and all-encompassing career in aerospace kept music as an occasional hobby until he started Getsemani Music in 2004, set up to represent his son's publishing.
It wasn't until his retirement in 2017 that things could really kick up a gear and a visit to the Moog factory sparked a long term love the brand. With time and funding finally available, his collection began and grew to include the Moog One, Voyager, Grandmother, Subharmonicon, DFAM and Mother 32, alongside support from Yamaha, Arturia and Logic Pro on recording duties.
Time for me to find out how it all started, respect our elders and learn about how our music has evolved and how things worked back in the day, alongside what it's like to go from an Ace to a One and the creative possibilities these wonderful machines offer today.
Come join us - ask your own questions and even join us to ask them live on stream from your phone if you want. Loullamae's 'Best Quiz On The Internet' is on as always having hit £2000 for Great Ormond Street which is an incredible achievement. Blow away the Sunday evening blues and come chat with me, Mrs Wiggly and the friendliest group of followers around!
Broadcast live on Sunday 20th February 2022 at 7pm UK, 8pm CET and 2pm EST. Thanks all!
'Inky Da Cat' - Queen of the live jam, Empress of the live stream and a genuine Welsh Princess. Lisa Beynon is a top friend and true legend of the scene. As a big part of the 'Hardware jams' Facebook group, she eschews all things computer for making music in favour of creating tracks live and on the fly with a great selection of kit and cleverness.
Featuring nine-year old Loullamae's 'Best Quiz On The Internet' as always, plus live synth jam insights and quite possibly a valiant attempt at making Welsh Cakes.
