What would it be like to grapple with stereotypes and historical trauma all while trying to find your true identity? Try to imagine the courage of a little girl, in kindergarten, eagerly raising her hand on Columbus Day, to claim her Native American heritage, and protest the celebration of Columbus. Then, what it would feel like to be told by your teacher that you are not Native American, because you were perceived as the Korean in the primarily white classroom. Imagine Jayden Lim’s real-life experiences. Join me to hear her story and why she is now a youth activist demanding that we move beyond the headdress. And she is not referring to the headdress that is meaningful to the Plains and other tribal communities. She’s talking about the white man’s interpretation of the headdress as a savage and uncivilized representation of Native Peoples. Get ready to think and be inspired.

Tucson Electric Power (TEP) began recognizing customers with BrightEE Awards five years ago to promote awareness of its energy efficiency programs, which help customers save energy while producing substantial environmental benefits. Award recipients have demonstrated their leadership in sustainability efforts and, by recognizing organizations for those efforts; TEP hopes their achievement will inspire others to follow in their footsteps. Join me to hear about the 2018 Sustainability Partner of the Year, The Nature Conservancy (TNC). They were selected for this award because of their overall commitment to sustainability, supporting their mission to conserve the land and water on which all life depends. TNC achieves this mission through the dedicated efforts of its diverse staff; by partnering with individuals, governments, local nonprofits and corporations; and by using a non-confrontational, collaborative approach. In 2010, the World Health Organization and the United Nations Population Fund recommended that manufacturers minimize the presence of nitrosamines.  They are a class of carcinogenic chemicals. Sadly, the manufacturers of feminine hygiene products and condoms must not have gotten that memo. In September 2014, the Reproductive Health Technologies Project (RHTP) released independent test results of latex condoms sold in the United States. Only two major brands were free of detectable nitrosamines across their entire product line! Sustain is one of those brands. Why all the fuss about the chemicals in products which, besides pads and tampons, women may only use for a few minutes a day a few times a week? Because in a modern world filled with hazardous toxins and pollutants, every exposure counts. And staying healthy means reducing or preventing every possible contact with every potential toxin every chance we can get. This is a year of firsts for Mrs. Green’s World and covering a topic as important to us as the safety of women’s health is right up there. We are ready to talk about what is vagina friendly.  Are you?
