Last week, we said that God granted the people's request for "a king like the other nations" had... so they would see why that was a bad idea. This week, God gives them a different kind of king: King David. But what made David different? Was David just different, or was he better? After we hear about David's selection in 1 Samuel 16:1-13, we move on to the story of David and Goliath to see what this event reveals about David's character.

The people said they wanted a king so they could be like the other nations. Be careful what you ask for. Sometimes, God grants your request... just to show you how foolish it was.

The United Methodist Church is preparing to make decisions that could potentially result in a major schism. These decisions are currently focused on the debate over whether or not to perform same-sex marriages and whether or not to ordain pastors who are in same-sex marriages. But this debate should be understood as part of the Church's ongoing struggle over how to apply ancient morality to modern life. Acts 15 shows us how the early Church got through its first moral crisis, and it provides us guidance on how Christians can come together, debate, compromise, and maintain unity in diversity.

This week, examine Galatians 5:13-26 and what freedom means for the Christian. My apologies for the sound quality.

Today, we look at the Pentecost story found in Acts 2. We examine what it says about the early Church, and we contemplate what that means for the Church today. The message then transitions into the introduction of our service of Confirmation. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties (the battery in the microphone died) we are unable to include the entire Confirmation service.

Today, as we celebrate Mother's Day, we also recognize the graduating class of 2018. Accordingly, we're taking the opportunity to talk about how we parent kids through major life passages, and how we honor our parents as they age. Our texts are Proverbs 31:10-31 and Ephesians 6:1-4.
