The discussion surrounding the appropriateness or necessity of tracking one's food regularly, is one that constantly rages within our community and industry. Some argue that the level of attention can create obsessive tendencies with food and that the habit perpetuates diet culture, while others argue that the knowledge and understanding it can create is actually a vital component of developing the ability to intuitively eat.
On this episode Kat and Ben sit down to discuss the issues surrounding tracking macros and things to consider before deciding whether it's right for you, including:
- Understanding your personal goals, and the level of regiment required to achieve them
- Perceived restrictions Vs nutritional freedoms
- Understanding the difference between tracking as tool, not an end goal
- Not all tools serve all people, all of the time.
- Developing awareness around our emotional connection to nutrition and numbers, including scale weight.
At MTMM, we believe that the key to healthy relationships with food and body are derived through knowledge, understanding and the application of both. For some clients, tracking is appropriate at times. For others, not so much - but we could all benefit from a greater understanding of the foods we choose to eat.
