When you think of SoCal and automotive museums, Oxnard, California might not be the first location that springs to mind.
But iDSC Podcast resident automotive expert/historian, the good Professor, Clinton Quan knows otherwise. He’s dialed into all things automotive in Southern California – and everywhere else on the planet too.
Oxnard is home to the Mullin Automotive Museum, which is the Professor’s number one top pick of all auto museums in SoCal.
A quick five-minute drive from the Mullin Museum is the Murphy Automotive Museum. Both of these are special places for automotive enthusiasts – so special that they’re not even open all the time. In fact, these museums are rarely open.
Of course Professor Quan always knows when the automotive stars are aligned. He recently found a day when both car-hot-spots were not only open, but each had special events underway as well!

Clinton Quan: The Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard is my favorite car museum in Southern California and it is absolutely gorgeous. I would say 90, over 90 percent of the vehicles are French automobiles. Murphy Auto Museum had a really special event. It was the vintage trailers and campers show. Even if you spend two, three hours say at the Mullin, you're still going to have enough time to visit the Murphy.
Tom Smith: Welcome to iDriveSoCal, the podcast all about mobility from the automotive capital of the United States, Southern California. Tom Smith here with the professor, Mr. Clinton Quan. Say hello, Clinton.
Clinton Quan: Hi, Tom.
Tom Smith: Hello. Hello. Today's podcast is about actually two museums. One of them being the professor's A number one favorite of all time.
Clinton Quan: In Southern California.
Tom Smith: In Southern California. Oh, there's a global museum that you like better?
Clinton Quan: Well, there's a lot of other car museums around the world that I haven't been to so I don't want to say.
Tom Smith: Okay.
Clinton Quan: All over the world when...
Tom Smith: Wow, this guy is specific let me tell you. At any rate, the two museums are both up in Oxnard and when you get a chance, you want to experience this day. And when I say when you get a chance, there's an emphasis on the when you get a chance because not only does your schedule need to coincide but the one museum, the Mullin Museum, is only open very rarely. And then the other museum that's five minutes away is the Murphy Museum.
Clinton Quan: Yes.
Tom Smith: And I've not attended either but the professor has attended both numerous times but he just had a jaunt up there recently and he's going to tell us all about it because it's definitely definitely a cool experience and something that you want to put on your to do list. Professor, take it away.
Clinton Quan: Yes, the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard is my favorite car museum in Southern California and it is absolutely gorgeous.
Tom Smith: The whole place is a work of art.
Clinton Quan: Yeah, the cars are a work of art. French automobiles and ...
Tom Smith: Exclusively French automobiles.
Clinton Quan: Pretty much all French automobiles.
Tom Smith: Okay.
Clinton Quan: They do have some other vehicles but I would say 90, over 90 percent of the vehicles are French automobiles or maybe even higher than that, maybe 95 percent.
Tom Smith: Okay.
