The story is set in the 23rd century and follows the adventures of Korben Dallas (played by Bruce Willis), a former special forces major who is now working as a taxi driver in the sprawling metropolis of New York City.

One day, Korben's life takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious young woman named Leeloo (played by Milla Jovovich) literally falls into his taxi. Leeloo is the fifth element, a being of great power who is crucial in the battle against an evil force that threatens to destroy the universe every 5,000 years
