We continue with the gospel testimony from the story of David, Bathsheba and Uriah. 2. And it is impossible to make sense of the story unless read through gospel lenses. 3. Thus, it is important to identify and define the individuals involved and how they relate or are mapped to the gospel testimony. 4. The gospel has Christ, the Law and the church as pillars and this testimony is well represented in this story. 5. With a gospel hermeneutic (way of interpretation) you will see that the theology in Romans is the same as that which is presented in this story. 6. But you will not see it if you are bend on moralizing the story and think that it is about adultery and murder. 7. It is a Berean gospel, and it is Free!

  • The Rejection of Deliverers
The sermon analyzes Stephen's defense in Acts 7, highlighting the persistent pattern of Israel rejecting God's appointed deliverers from Abraham to Moses. It emphasizes that the nation's history is defined by a cycle of rebellion and idolatry, culminating in their betrayal and murder of Jesus Christ. The preacher warns that this same stubborn resistance continues today as people refuse to accept the Gospel message. By drawing parallels between the rejection of Moses and the rejection of Christ, the text underscores the seriousness of spiritual disobedience. The central call is for listeners to recognize their sinful nature and urgently repent to avoid facing God as a judge rather than receiving Him as Savior.

  • You Shall Not Murder
The sixth commandment calls you to value and protect human life, but it also reaches into your heart—confronting hatred, sinful anger, resentment, and the desire for revenge. God calls you to deal with conflict through forgiveness and reconciliation rather than allowing bitterness to grow. When you recognize how deeply you fall short of this command, you are pointed back to Christ. His righteousness covers your failure, and His grace enables you to increasingly respond to others with patience, mercy, and love.

  • Sin put away
The sermon examines King David's grave sins of adultery and murder to illustrate the profound nature of divine grace and human depravity. It emphasizes that even eminent believers are susceptible to sin due to their fallen nature, necessitating a constant reliance on God's mercy rather than self-righteousness. The narrative highlights the role of the prophet Nathan in convicting David, demonstrating that God faithfully intervenes to restore those who genuinely confess their transgressions. Furthermore, the message warns against the severe consequences of sin on individuals and communities while affirming that God's faithfulness ultimately overrules evil for good. The central call is for listeners to acknowledge their own weakness, seek immediate forgiveness through Christ, and trust in God's unmerited favor.
