Raised on the Hoopa Valley Reservation in Humboldt County, Angela McConnell was proud of her Hoopa culture and her roots, including Mojave, Karuk, and Yurok. At 26, she dreamed of becoming a journalist and a creative writer. A proficient writer, her words were cut short when she was found shot to death alongside her boyfriend in September 2018. Her case is still unsolved.
