Please don’t stop the HUGHsic! In today’s episode we dig perhaps too deep into Marc Lawrence’s 2007 romcom Music & Lyrics, a late-in-the-game Hughing that sends up ‘80s pop stars and the music industry around them. It’s a movie of fictional smash hits and Hugh Grant butt wiggles. It gives us Careless Whisper sax and ABC synths. It’s got Drew Barrymore delivering a frankly inhumane volume of rhyming lines. Join us as we try and figure out whether this movie predicted 2010s-era Gary Barlow, if it invented PSY’s Gangnam style, and whether Hugh’s music could do with more minor thirds.
