Oh the Hughrrors of war! Young Baby Grant’s role in The Remains of the Day is brief but beautiful, depicting him as an excellent journalist and mediocre godson. He busts the story wide open in this adapted Kazuo Ishigiro tale of a domesticated country manor wrapped up in the threat of war. The star of the show is Anthony Hopkins, though, who plays repressed and sublimated Mr. Stevens, grappling with his Nazi-sympathising boss, who takes the decision to side with the Germans over this whole world war two thing, largely ‘cos some of them are his mates. Also Emma Thompson stars and helps make the movie that extra bit brutal. This was a good’un! Good’un alert!
