Music and Mental Health – why and how do people find music a help?

In this episode, Kathy talks about the impact that spooky music might have on mental health. When we say spooky, we mean all types of death metal, dark music – perhaps music that mummy and daddy would not approve of, but that young people say is beneficial to coping with life’s stresses and strains. Kathy is joined by Dave Neal of Radio Verulam (a music lover and musician) and by Vlod, a young man who claims death metal helped him coped with troubled times .
We also spoke with Professor Rob Poole,  Professor of Social Psychiatry, School of Social Sciences at Bangor University, and Jo Askham, a Freelance arts consultant based in St Albans, two mental health professionals who comment on why they think music is good for the brain and coping in general!
