Music On The Run

This is my second conversation with Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jimmy Jam Harris. We recorded it at the 2025 NAMM Show, and life got busy, so it sat on my hard drive for a while.

Then in 2026, Jimmy and Terry Lewis invited me to Las Vegas to sit in with them during their residency at The Venetian. I joined them in April and again this October. Those shows got a lot of buzz, so it felt like the right time to dust this interview off and share it.

Jimmy is an incredibly intelligent man, and he shares a lot of hard-earned wisdom here. I feel fortunate that I played a small part in reuniting him with his father after 50 years apart. Over time he’s become a close friend, a confidant, and a mentor to me.

I hope you enjoy Part 2 of my conversation with Jimmy Jam.

EP 69 - Robert "Sput" Searight

I met Sput during COVID.  He played a few episodes of FunkFriday, and when he came through town with Toto, we got to hang out a little bit.  Sput has set a new standard on the drum kit, inspiring a new generation of musicians.  He's a producer, a drummer, a mentor, a father, and was kind enough to stop by and share his story.

We are kicking off the 2025 season with episode 66, featuring keyboard guru Greg Phillinganes.

Greg has been a hero of mine for many years, and it was fascinating to hear his story. He's played on some of the most influential records in pop history, including his work with Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, as well as collaborations with David Gilmore, Eric Clapton, and Toto.

This is the last in the series of podcasts recorded at the NAMM show in Anaheim earlier in 2024.  My guest is one of the most talented, young multi-instrumentalist I’ve ever met.  I swear there is a middle aged man trapped inside his body! I’ve never heard someone his age play with the maturity he possesses. We had a great chat about his musical family. Justin Lee Shultz is my guest on Music On The Run!

PREVIOUS EPISODES:

This episode features Italian guitar phenom Matteo Mancuso.  He has taken the world by storm with his “new” approach to the guitar.  Not only does he shred, he’s incredibly musical.  We caught up with him at the 2024 NAMM show in Anaheim, California.
