In the 1800s thousands if not millions of passenger pigeons would make Muskegon County their home. These pigeons and their flocks gave rise to names of locations such as Pigeon Hill and Pigeon Creek. However, by 1900 these birds left our skies and would not be seen again. The disappearance of Passenger Pigeons had many causes, and on our episode today we will break down the story of this tragic bird.

Herman Ivory was a Muskegon County resident who broke barriers in the military and also in local politics. Herman would serve for many years on the Muskegon Heights City Council and the Muskegon County board. Today he is honored as the namesake for the downtown Muskegon bus terminal.

At the beginning of the 20th Century, the Muskegon Traction and Lighting Company was responsible for providing electricity, natural gas, and street car services to Muskegon. Find out how this company came to be, and eventually why it fell apart.
