In the second episode of this program, hajjah Faten El Dana will inform you about the reasons for ordering the Royal commission into aged care, and what are the main issues it focused on. She will also shed the light on the Extent of substandard care and the prevalence of abuse in the sector.

Elder Abuse, We Reject.

Elder Safety, We Protect.

2MFM is launching an eye-opening media campaign that aims to help the community understand, prevent and respond to the various forms of elder abuse .

Elder abuse is any act of causing harm to an older person, and it is usually carried out by someone they know and trust.

Abuse is usually intentional. The harm caused to an older person may range from verbal harassment through to serious physical injury inflicted deliberately. Abuse can also include emotional harm and financial loss including the loss of a home and belongings.

Other forms of Elder abuse include: sexual abuse, and neglect. No elderly person should be subjected to any form of abuse.

The abuser may be:

• a son or daughter

• a grandchild

• a partner

• any other family member

• a friend; or even

• a neighbour.
