What can an Islamic inheritance calculator help a family understand?

It can organise asset, debt and family assumptions, illustrate potential shares and expose missing information. It cannot replace verified family facts, current South African legal and tax processes, a properly drafted estate plan or qualified Shariah guidance.

In this practical demonstration, Ali Salie and Ashraf Khan explore MuslimFin’s inheritance calculator using a simplified scenario. They discuss information hygiene, potential heirs, fara’id proportions, estate-cost assumptions and the difference between a planning model and an implemented estate outcome.

The prescribed executor-remuneration tariff is 3.5% of gross estate assets and 6% of post-death income collected, with VAT potentially added where the executor or agent is VAT-registered. For the 2027 year of assessment, the CGT exclusion in the year of death is R440,000.
