On this week's episode of the Property Hustlers Show, we sat down with Multi-Family Rental Real Estate Investor Kasey Wong.
Kasey started working in real estate in the early 2000s where he looked at 100 properties before making his first investment a triplex house. Not wanting to stay in the Toronto real estate bubble he started looking at properties in the London real estate market and Hamilton real estate market.
Kasey has not limited himself to making one type of investment, he has done some condo investing, single family home investing, multi residential investing, and even some student housing investment. Now Kasey would say that he is an expert in multifamily real estate investing. Handling all of these properties is too much for one person so Kasey has partnered up and has made some joint venture partnership. He learned early on how to create a lease agreement when making a real estate partnership, especially when working with a family member or friend. Success doesn't come without its problems along the way and he did run into some tenant problems leading to a landlord tenant dispute.
When Kasey started he did all of the work, driving hours to go to showings and going into the properties as a handyman when needed. Kasey didn't hire himself a real estate coach, instead, he took it upon himself to get a job working at a property management business so he could learn on the job. As time went on he learned that he could rely on other people to do some of that work for him and that is the difference between being an active investor vs passive investor.
