Having a Sunday spot is not enough to make us feel like we belong. In our culture, we look to sameness in activities, hobbies, sports, etc but we get disappointed when it doesn’t bring about the sense of connection we really crave. That’s because belonging starts and ends with the gospel. God made us belong to him, when he drew us to himself, giving new hearts to wretched sinners, and making us His. As believers, we belong to Christ, and that’s where our sense of belonging must start.

Philippians 2:1-4  So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy,  complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

When this is the day you feel disconnected from church, you're searching for community, and you long to have that wonderful sense of belonging, know that you are not alone in that. You are likely surrounded by people longing for the same, but the only way to find it, is to die to yourself, and in humility, consider others before yourself, and look to BE a friend, to BE a community, to help OTHERS feel connected. Instead of just longing for someone to do that for YOU.
