Adrian Shanker, a Queer activist who founded the Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center in Allentown, PA, pulled together 26 fellow activists to share their personal stories, research and insights into the health disparities they experienced throughout their lives. Editor Adrian Shanker shared some favorite parts of his book, BODIES AND BARRIERS Queer Activists on Health on the My Feminine Heart Podcast, focusing our discussion on the chapters written by activists in the transgender community. This book is beautifully written and a positive, motivating must read for members of the LGBT Community, their allies and anyone who desires to advocate for improved inclusion of the LGBT Community in the Health Care Industry. This is not an attack on health care but instead shines an informative light with great suggestions on how we can move forward in health care. Some of the ideas in this book are so simple, they are impossible not to implement and will revolutionize how we all look at health care in America.
From the moment I met Adrian Shanker, I knew I wanted to have him as a guest on our show. I knew he was going to be a speaker at the 2020 Keystone Conference and when the conference was cancelled, I offered him the use of My Feminine Heart to still share the story of his book with the Keystone Community.
