  • Dan Gurney. Lee Iococa. 007 movies. Pace car for the Indy 500. What do they all have in common?

On April 17, 1964 the automotive world was rocked when a new vehicle was introduced. It was in at least two James Bond films: Thunderball and Goldfinger. Dan Gurney was a driver of the test car before production started and Lee Ioccoa, the man responsible for the mini van at Chrysler, was responsible for this new car that has been an icon with auto enthusiast since 1964. The car? The Ford Mustang.

When I started researching the origins of the Mustang, it led to so many trails of information, it was almost overwhelming. This is another car that's exciting for me to talk about. Partly because I owned a 1979 coupe-the loud and sorta fast car I always wanted in high school. This is a great story that you'll enjoy. So, let's get right into it.

Here's links to more information on the introduction of the Ford Mustang:

  • Air Cooled Engines: The VW Beetle

What do you remember about the cars from years past? You know, the 40's, 50's and 60's. Stick with me for a few minutes while I go back in time and explore some great automotive memories.

Lately I've been talking about different cars with air cooled engines: the Chevy Corvair, the 911 Porsche, the Tucker and the Volkswagen Beetle. What a deal, not having to mess with coolant and radiators!

My first car was a dark green, 1964 VW convertible. With only 36 horsepower, how was it this car was so much fun to drive? Was it because of the influence of the designer of one of today's most popular sports cars? Do you have an idea who the designer was?

It all started in the mid 1930's when Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, of the Porsche 911 fame, and a soon to be crazed leader of Germany, Adolf Hitler, developed a car for common guy: The Volkswagon or "folks wagon".

From the very beginning, the VW was air cooled until the last VW rear engine Beetle rolled off the assembly line in Mexico. The history of VW is dear to my heart because of my first ride, a 1964 convertible.

Doing the research on this one revealed much that I never knew about the history of the VW. This one is going to be especially exciting for me to talk about and I know you're going to enjoy this story.

  • Air Cooled Engines- The Tucker??

March 30, 1947, a new and innovative car was introduced to America. An engineer that designed a gun turret used during World War II and developed a prototype "combat car" that was never used during the war because it was deemed "too fast", was the man behind the vision of this new company. Who could this be?

Lately I've been talking about cars with air cooled engines. What a deal, not having to mess with coolant, busted radiator hoses and radiators!

The air cooled cars I had in mind to talk about are the Chevy Corvair, the 911 Porsche, the Tucker and the Volkswagen Beetle.

Today I'm talking about an The Tucker automobile. But wait….was the Tucker really air cooled?

My inspiration for talking about the Tucker was because I thought it was an air cooled car with a lot of innovative features. I was wrong about it being air cooled. But, I was kind of right. I'll talk more about this in a moment.

Doing the research on this one has been very captivating and informative. There was even a movie made about the car. This is going to be fun to talk about and I know you're going to enjoy this story.

  • Air Cooled Engines- The Chevy Corvair

    MyFirstRidePodcast.com

During the next four weeks, I'm going to talk about different cars with air cooled engines. What a deal, not having to mess with coolant and radiators!

Today, I highlight the Chevy Corviar. When first introduced, kind of boxy and ugly. But towards the end of production, the Corvair was pretty stylish. Even Jay Leno says they're cool. More on that later.

My inspiration for talking about the Corviar came as I watched Jay Leno feature one of his on YouTube. Very cool. Even Tony Dow from Leave it To Beaver has on. This is going to be fun to talk about and I know you're going to enjoy this story. So, let's get right into it.

Welcome to My First Ride Podcast. Today, I'm talking with Alex Guthrie. He's a busy guy with the Remodel Revolution Podcast, Remodel Revolution YouTube channel, as well as Facebook and somehow running his remodeling business. A couple of weeks ago, I was a guest on his podcast/vodcast and we got to talking about his first ride. As he shared, I knew we needed to talk more about his first car, or actually his truck, and allow me to record our conversation.

You're going to enjoy his story of how he bought his first car and what it was. And maybe he'll say something about leaving it on the side of the road.

  • Why I Started My First Ride Podcast

Welcome to My First Ride Podcast. On this episode, I talk about a story that influenced my decision to start this podcast.

A few years ago, I started thinking about developing a podcast centered around people and their cars. Their first rides. And then I ready the story about Steven and his Camaro.

The story I read was on Jalopnick.com. and it got my attention. It was written by David Obuchowski, a contributing writer for an automotive website called Jalopnik.com. Here's the link to the article which tells the story in more detail: The Heartbreaking Story Of A Man And His '68 Camaro. After listening to today's podcast, be sure and check out David's story on Jalopnik.
