Hi, its Steve Woods, the Hypnotist here with this first video about Hypnosis Myths. In celebration of World Hypnotism Day on the 4th January.
If you are watching this through my Podcast or YouTube channel make sure you subscribe to see the rest of these videos over the next few days.
I should mention as well that usually these are audio only podcasts, so if thats your thing, normal service will resume after these videos.
So today short video is entitled….. Can you make me cluck like a chicken?
This always makes me smile and there are often variations around quack like a duck and bark like a dog.
As some of you know I do a lot of business networking and I probably get one person each day saying this to me.
When I did my first formal training it was with a stage hypnotist who also did a lot of therapeutic work. He was quite direct and I still sometimes use his reply to the cluck like a chicken. He would say….. Of course I can, if you want to. But why would you want to cluck like a chicken?
Over the years some people have taken that to mean yes, I can MAKE you do that but the key here is the if you want to. As a Hypnotist, despite popular belief, I cannot make someone do something they dont want to do. However, if someone was quite happy and willing to run around clucking like a chicken, then the hypnosis would give them the confidence and focus to just go ahead and do that.
Now, the 'if you want to' is a very important side of therapy work. If someone does not want to make a change, or is scared of the change then I cannot make that change happen for them.
My work is as an enabler. If the smoker says they need to stop because people around them are telling them they have to but they themselves still enjoy a smoke. I cannot enable them to stop because they themselves dont want to stop, they still enjoy it, they dont want to cluck like a chicken (or stop smoking) and wont be able to MAKE them (or enable them).
Things get more complicated with some fears or phobias. Sadly Hypnosis is often a last resort for people, probably because there are all of these myths surrounding it. As a result quite often we have had a fear or phobia for many, many years and there can be just as much fear of not having it anymore and how life will be scarily different when the fear has gone.
The good news is that once the decision is made to want the change for yourself, the subconscious mind will quickly start to enjoy the new way of doing things whilst in Hypnosis and will bring about rapid change to make it so.
So, can I MAKE you change? No. Can I enable you to be the best chicken impressionist the world has ever seen? Yes, if thats what you want.
Join me tomorrow for the next myth and remember to subscribe to the podcast or youtube channel where you are watching this.
