小学生のときに父親からプレゼントされて以来、

Mayaが影響を受けた本だと話すサン＝テグジュペリの『星の王子さま』。

この作品に重ねながら、彼女の人生観や今の思いを語ります。

フランス好きというだけで、Mayaに「フランス語で読んで！」と無茶振りされるKazu。

途中、Mayaは作品中の大切な一節をスペイン語でも紹介しています。

Ever since her father gave it to her in elementary school,

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry has been a special book for Maya.

Through this story, she shares her view of life and what is on her mind now.

Just because he loves France, Kazu gets unexpectedly asked by Maya to read parts of it in French.

Maya also introduces an important passage from the book in Spanish.

第5回は三兄弟の子育て（全3回）の3回目、三男編をお届けします。

ピカソのように、ひたすら絵を描いていた幼少期。

小学3年生から野球部生活へ突入し、野球漬けの毎日に。

コロナで野球のない生活になり、絵に再び目覚める。

部活後にアートスクールに通う二重生活、浪人を経て美大へ進学。

アーティストを目指す元野球少年の三男のこれまでを振り返ります。

Episode 5 is the third and final part of our three-part parenting series, this time about our youngest son.

As a little child, he was always drawing, almost like Picasso.

From third grade on, baseball became a huge part of his life.

When the pandemic brought baseball to a stop, he found his way back to art.

He lived a double life, going to art school after baseball practice, and after several years of preparation, went on to art college.

In this episode, we look back on the journey of our youngest son, a former baseball player now pursuing a career as an artist.

As a young child, he was fascinated by numbers.

He used to entertain us by memorizing entire Detective Conan movies and performing all the parts himself.

He started playing the piano at the age of four and went on to compete at a national level.

Later, when he entered high school, he set his sights on the University of Tokyo.

Starting with Episode 3, we will share stories about raising our three sons in a three-part series.

This episode focuses on our eldest son.

As a young child, he was always full of energy.

He devoted himself to baseball from third grade in elementary school through college graduation.

He also struggled with baseball elbow from fourth grade in elementary school.

In this episode, we talk about how his experiences as a captain and vice-captain have helped him in his work today as a junior high school Japanese teacher.

Kazu「…高校野球のな、最後の夏に嬉しいお話が」

Maya「はい、もうあれは本当にびっくりというか」

Kazu「彼がキャプテンやからな。キャプテンで抽選に行って」

Maya「抽選会行って、で、引いたのがね。開幕戦だったんですよね」

Kazu「開会式の後のな、開幕戦。場所は京セラドーム。京セラドームで試合ができるっていうね」

Maya「そう、そう、そう、そう。もう一生分の運を使い果たしたと、自分で言ってますね」

Kazu「あれはな。すごい、親としてもすごい思い出に」

Maya「そうですね。顧問の先生に、抽選会行く時に、京セラドームでやる履正社とのくじを引いてこいと言われてたらしいんですね…」

(Kazu and Maya reflecting on their son's final high school baseball summer, where he miraculously drew the opening game at Kyocera Dome as team captain, though it unfortunately ended in a heartbreaking first-round defeat—the shortest summer in Osaka.)

子育ての終盤を迎えた私たち。第2回では、この番組を始めることになったきっかけを、二人それぞれの視点で話しています。

その背景には、最近のMayaの心境の変化もあったようです。

イントロの後半では、先日二人で訪れた、下鴨神社の古本市や五山の送り火についても触れています。

そしてエンディングでは、今後の予定についても少し話しました。

As we near the end of our child-raising years, in Episode 2 we talk about what led us to start this podcast, each from our own point of view.

A recent change in Maya’s outlook may also have been part of the background to this decision.

In the latter half of the intro, we also talk about our recent visit together to the secondhand book market at Shimogamo Shrine and the Gozan Okuribi bonfires.

At the end of the episode, we briefly talk about some of our plans for the future.
