In Jesus' time, the religious leaders added all these rules to God’s word. The Jewish listeners were trying to follow the rules to be approved by God. Jesus wants us to know that salvation is a free gift. He wants us to know that we can give up the impossible task of trying to be acceptable. God loves them and accepts them, just as they are, through the blood of Jesus. But because of His great love, he doesn’t want them to stay as they are. He wants them to find rest for their souls and grow daily.

Rest for your soul yields rest in the body.

What if you knew that the last time you left your house or your job, it would be the very last time you were there? What if you knew the last conversation you had with your friend, child, co-worker, parent… would be the last conversation you would have with them? What if, at this very moment, God called you home?

If you knew it, would you say something different? Would you do something different?

What if you lived in the moment, as if it were your last, and you would be in the presence of God in that very moment?

If you purchased a product and you are not sure how to work it, it is good to read the directions. If you are still unsure, you might ask someone, perhaps someone who has used the product before. But wouldn’t the best source be the person who created the product? They know why they made it and what to do to use it. It is quite possible that they may have insight you never even thought about.

Sometimes, if everything is achievable within our own means, we may begin to believe we don’t need God. Sometimes, God strips things and people away so that we can know, without a doubt, where our strength lies.
