This week, I am joined by Joe Bonamassa, and we’re diving into the stories behind the songs from throughout his entire discography.
We also discuss: his collection of over 650 vintage guitars; his use of volume swells in his music (for example his solo in the title track to “Blues Deluxe,” the song that introduced me to his music); his approach to cover-songs such as “Sloe Gin” (originally written by Bob Ezrin & recorded by actor & singer Tim Curry) and “Prisoner” (originally recorded by Barbara Stresiand); his approach to unique live albums, including his latest release "Live At The Hollywood Bowl w/ Orchestra;” his release of "Better The Devil You Know" (a song he co-wrote with Journey’s Jonathan Cain) to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of his “Different Shades Of Blue” album; his musical / career expiration date; his Journeyman LLC venture, which is currently focused on Joanne Shaw Taylor & Robert Jon & The Wreck, and more!

This week’s guest curator is Ed Cunard, co-host of Fawkes & Friends, and we're crafting a two-pronged mixtape this week. On one side: we offer PSA's on some of the biggest karaoke cliches we've each seen over the years. And on the other: the songs that’ll set off a sing-along like nobody’s business!
We also talk about Karaoke etiquette (yes, there is such a thing!) and the differences a regional perspective can bring to the songs!

This week’s guest curator is Tony G., co-host of Podioslave, and we're crafting a mixtape filled with the best songs from across Rage Against The Machine’s catalog.
And to make things as difficult as possible on an already tough band to whittle down: since RATM only had 4 studio albums, a few b-sides / soundtrack cuts and some live material, we’re making this ep. even more challenging, because instead of our usual 20 song format, this playlist will only consist of 10 songs!

This week, my guest curator is Jason Whissell, host of both the It's Not That Bad & There Can Only Be One podcasts, & on this extremely fun episode, we're curating a playlist of songs that feature the lyric whoa (or "woah," depending on how you choose to spell it!) in some capacity.
While we use the word whoa a lot in the episode, we made sure not to go whoa-verboard. You’re whoa-come! OK, I’ll stop now.

This week’s guest curator is Trevor Dale, co-host of Album Divers, and we're crafting a mixtape filled with our favorite 90’s one-hit wonder songs.
The criteria we used to define a one-hit wonder? If the artist / band had more than one song crack the Billboard US Hot 100 Top 40 list, it was out of contention; If the artist / band NEVER cracked the top 40, but the song was still a recognizable hit, then it’s fair game!

On this "Album Dive" episode, I am joined by modern blues artist Kevin "Sonny" Gullage to dig into the stories behind several songs from his debut album “Go Be Free” which is being released via Blind Pig Records.
Some of the songs we discuss include: Just Kiss Me Baby, Go Be Free, Things I Can’t Control, Worried About The Young (feat. Christone “Kingfish” Ingram), Tattooed Wings & Hot House.
We also talk about Sonny’s experience on Season 20 of American Idol, his family relation to blues/folk legend, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee “Lead Belly” Ledbetter; the music lineage in his family (Sister Alberta Gullage released gospel records for the Wajo label in the 1960’s and his father, Tony Gullage played bass for Dr. John, Henry Butler as well as other artists around the New Orleans music scene); working with Tom Hambridge on the writing & production of the album; recording with Christone “Kingfish” Ingram & the lesson he learned from the entire experience overall.
You can purchase “Go Be Free” on vinyl: https://www.blindpigrecords.com/product-page/sonny-gullage-go-be-free-lp
as well as CD: https://www.blindpigrecords.com/product-page/sonny-gullage-go-be-free-cd
and will be available Aug. 23rd everywhere music is streamed.

This week’s guest curator is David Rosen, host of the Piecing It Together Podcast, & we’re crafting a playlist dedicated to the guitar: be it a specific guitar (think B.B. King’s Lucille), playing guitar, or just the love of the instrument itself.
