Placed on a ventilator for lung failure caused by a virulent flu in 1999, Kathy McDaniel fought for her life in a drug-induced coma for three weeks. During this time, she found herself in an inexplicably dangerous, foreign realm. Dr. Kaci Chamone is an Army vet, author, ordained minister and Certified Life Coach.  In this episode, Kaci tells me one of the craziest stories I have ever heard.  She tells the story of her tumultuous childhood where she was moved from home to home with a mother who did not value her safety. Eventually issues come to a head with her mother and they get into a physical fight.  While many people tried to intervene, a man driving by stopped his car and actually took her and her friend away from the scene. Because she had no structure growing up, Kaci was drawn to join the military where she finally experienced some stability in her life.

Christina Ray Stanton is the author of two books: Faith in the Face of Covid 19 and Out of the Shadow of 911. We discussed her Covid experience in episode 32.  In this episode, Christina returns to the show to discuss her experience with 911. She lived only 6 blocks from the World Trade Center and watched the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower.  She and her husband were exposed to the toxic dust of the the wreckage and as a result had health problems that they still deal with to this day. They were unable to return to their apartment for two weeks and she said that the 911 attack changed everything about their lives.  I also share the story of what I was doing that day when I was working in Washington DC.

We reminisced about the World Trade Center and what it meant literally and symbolically to us.
