On Tuesday, July 25th, the City Council Meeting took center stage as they faced a difficult decision regarding the 901 S. Mariposa SB-35 Project. Tempers flared, and despite facing disrespectful behavior, the Council had to make a tough call – approve the project or face potential legal action.
Wednesday, July 26th, brought mixed emotions as the Burbank Fire Chief announced his retirement, effective August 31st. But there was also a celebration at CYPHER VR on Burbank Blvd with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony.
Thursday, July 27th, seemed to be a relatively quiet day in the city.
Friday, July 28th, brought a unique incident when a bear was found taking a dip in a pool – a sight that surely surprised many!
Over the weekend, the community came together for a special event organized by the Burbank Young Professionals (BYP) at Johnny Carson Park.
Sunday, July 30th, was a tragic day as the Burbank community mourned the loss of a beloved resident, Roy Wiegand, who lost his life in a bike accident during a noble charity ride. Roy was well-known in Burbank for his involvement in local causes and his co-hosting role in the Mike & Roy Show.
On Monday, July 31st, the Sustainable Burbank Commission met at City Hall, and the Burbank Police Officers' Association honored a fallen hero with a wreath-laying ceremony at The Guardians statue.
As we head into August, on Tuesday, August 1st, the City Council takes a break, but you can catch up on their latest episode of "Ask the Mayor" from the previous week.
Wednesday, August 2nd, will see discussions at the Civil Service Board about canceling meetings when there are no actionable items on the agenda. The board will also provide updates on employment statistics in the city.
Also on August 2nd, the Domestic Violence Task Force will meet, discussing financial literacy for survivors and the prevention of domestic violence incidents.
Thursday, August 3rd, brings the Burbank Water and Power Board meeting with a packed 118-page agenda.
Friday, August 4th, will feature a Chamber Ribbon Cutting event at Essers LA, a workout and personal training facility on Burbank Blvd.
On Saturday, August 5th, the Burbank Police Department will host Scoop Day at Foster Freeze, where the first 300 patrons under 18 can enjoy free ice cream with officers. Later that evening, Gain Credit Union will host an Art Exhibit showcasing California Creative Arts in their lobby.
The weekend will culminate with DIG Burbank, an initiative empowering community volunteers to maintain the beauty of local parks, taking place on Saturday morning at the Joslyn Adult Center.
