Highly recommended
I consider this the best of the series. Susan Howatch's saga of Starbridge encompasses the state of the Anglican Church over a period of years and at the same time tells a gripping story with unforgettable characters. It would be good if Audible offered the entire series - at present only three of the books are available.
An excellent story!
This is an excellent novel which is very well narrated. You really need to read the series in order - this is book 5 - and it is very well worth listening to!
Mystical Paths
I am a diehard devotee of the Starbridge books and read them long before they became available in audio. This one is a joy with a particularly brilliant interpretation by its reader Glen McCready. This actor is new to me but I shall be looking out for anything else he may have read. He brought to life the main characters with great skill and much sympathy. I found myself wishing that he had read all the preceding novels as well. A very long book but one in which you had to ration yourself in order to make it seem even longer.
Very long and complicated, but worth it at the end
Where does Mystical Paths rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Top ten
Who was your favorite character and why?
Dinkie... !!! Why? She seemed to enjoy wreaking havoc and certainly did so.
What does Glen McCready bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
A very unique voice....certainly its hard to portray a mystic who is also trying to be James Bond, but Glen McCready did it very well indeed. A very talented reader. Hope to hear more audio books from him.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not really possible to do that as its so long, but its good however you listen to it.
Excellent storytelling
Another Susan Howatch book set in 1968 in the Anglican church circles of the Darrows, Aysgarths et al. Featuring a lot of paranormal talk and activity and a fascinating new character who specialises in the paranormal despite being an extremely down to earth offbeat priest!
Very enjoyable listen
