Another great read that kept me interested, laughing and enjoying the same characters as in the two previous books in this series. A new surprise character adds to the depth and to the importance of the main topic being touched upon in this book.

A love story of a different sort

The opening chapters of The Greatest Gift had me wondering a bit where the story was going. Jumping back and forth between two time periods, and focusing on a different set of characters in each, it took a while before it became clear how those two disparate stories would intersect.

Once the mist started to part at around chapter five, I realized I was hooked.

To my mind, The Greatest Gift by Rachael Johns is very much that. Two completely separate stories with three or perhaps four central characters, that just happen to intersect in a way that irrevocably changes the course of each of those central character's lives in ways they never could have imagined.

Focusing heavily on the way childhood experiences can mold and shape our approaches and attitudes to things, this book is very much centered around the questions of motherhood that I suspect are endemic to almost all women. Do I want to become a mother? Would I be any good at it? Am I even capable of bearing a child?

Different approaches and answers to each of these questions are touched upon by the wide variety of friends and family that interact with the primary characters as the story unfolds, and just when you think things are starting to make sense, the major plot twist in the story forces each of these questions back under the microscope to be re-examined under a new paradigm.

It was at that point that this story really took hold of my heart. What had been interesting and compelling reading, suddenly became a riveting, can't-even-imagine-putting-it-down experience as the various characters struggled to find new answers in the brave new world left in the wake of the upheaval that rocked their collective worlds.

I've always thought that the best books get you thinking.

Seriously creepy

I want my money back. This book disturbed me greatly. It was taking reality and adding Diana into the mix but not really. I am very sorry for purchasing this piece of trash.

Amazing

Loved the book and instead re-reading it I thought I'd listen instead, omg, this was AMAZING! So well done, it felt like I was experiencing the book for the first time. I have to admit, I sat in my car in the parking lot a few times just to finish the chapter. It felt like she was right next to me, speaking to ME. Yes I am now an Imagining Diana groupie but I haven't been this excited since I used to count the minutes to Sunday night first for Sex in the City then for Mad Men.

Reading this book is like Dancing in Stardust

This book is about a girl growing up under dreadful circumstances. If this child's circumstances where all that there was to the book, it would be depressing. However the language with which it is written is so beautiful and poetic that the awful is made less awful . I don't think I have ever read anything that I became so involved with the language . I enjoyed every minute of reading this book and felt alone once it was over. I can do nothing more than recommend this book very very highly to anyone who wants to read the beautiful and poetic story of a sad life.

Love, Hate, Love...

The Clay Girl is a work of sculpted art! This novel winds it way through love, disfunction, beautiful art, loss of love, sorrow, survival, and overcoming evil.

Ari is a beautiful soul who is full of goodness and her aunties are amazing artists who help Ari escape a tragic upbringing. Ari has a host of angels (and a seahorse) she can depend on to escape to a life of creativity, simplicity, honest relationships and true happiness.

Verbal and sexual abuse is rampant in our world and no person should have to endure what this family did...especially the children. Beautiful writing and goodness conquers evil.

The story is very good and the characters are those that you want in ...

READ THIS BOOK. The story is very good and the characters are those that you want in your life, But the writing,,,the writing will bring you to your knees. It can only be described as spectacular.

Magically poetic prose.

This book reads like poetry. The subject is tragic but the titular character tells the story carefully revealing details with perfect timing and artistic style. My book club will love this one.

Captivating

Our local newspaper recommended this book and it was delightful would highly recommend.

Just Wonderful!

A very touching and enlightening story that made me search deep within myself. I highly recommend this story.

Heavy

No pun intended- but this book weighed quite heavily on me. The book handles extremely hard topics very well, but the pacing of the book made me feel like there was an imbalance of rushed moments and moments that dragged on and a bit of strange time jumping. Besides this though, the book was really emotionally powerful.

I would rank in the 40th percentile. I have listened to so many, that's the only way I know how to rate it.

What about Tim Gerard Reynoldss performance did you like?

I believe Tim Gerard Reynolds added a lot to this book. I dont believe it's one I could've stuck with if reading.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I believe it did make me tear up a little. The story is about a son who commits suicide , the family is clueless. The father is determined to make it his fault.

Any additional comments?

The Dad in the book comes up with a unique way to try and increase awareness of suicide among teens especially. Despite ridicule from family and friends he trudges on. It's very endearing how positive his attitude and self restraint make Him very loveable.
