Author has potential...

This author has potential, but I found this story too short; mostly lacking character development and background. Even though the central concept is a passionate issue for me, I still couldn't get as interested in the plot as I should have been. Overall, I would like to listen to GS Kyle's future book, I do hope it's in this same genre, but this book wasn't my favorite. And while I would much rather have an amateur narrator or the author reading his own book than have to resort to actually reading the book myself (who has time for that?), I do hope GS Kyle's next book is narrated by one of the more seasoned pros (NOT Kevin Pierce though!)

Only 3 hours but...

I am going to give it 5 stars. The best parts come in the first hour when the author and narrator flu s the reading and you hear him say,"One, two, three" and he continues reading. God bless you for the courage to read it and write it.

Oh, could you leave the "s" off my beloved Corps? Just a request.

An interesting, fairly engrossing crime story set in rural Mexico. The reader has worked hard at the Mexican accents, but the lurch between standard American for the narration and Mexican for the dialogue is too extreme; he should have gone with one or the other.

Un libro lleno de trivialidad. Mucha pompa aristocrática y nada de contenido. No desarrolla un tema central sino más bien, divaga entre entre temáticas vacuas.

Moderately useful

As an Ann Tyler fan, I enjoyed A Spool of Blue Thread but there were some things I din't understand about the characters and their lives. I had hoped that this analysis would help me. But it tunrs out that the things I didn't understand, such as Denny's relationship with Alison, were not explained any better in this summary. It wa just something Ann Tyler never fleshed out. I had the same experience concerning the relationship of Stem and Denny. I thought there must have been something in ther childhood interactions that would explain their rivalry, but what I read was all there was, according to the summary.

It was a fine summary, but it didn't reveal any hidden meanings that I had hoped to understand.

Great Short read!

Normally, books about quirky families are somewhat mundane, but this book, "A Spool Of Blue Thread" by Instaread is a absolute masterpiece of a short read. Not only at some points is it comical, serious, or just intriguing, but as this author always does, it is absolutely immerseful, bringing the reader in by their neck with emotional characteristics and believable life events. This is defiantly one of my favorites by this author. A+++++

Ok, but not my favorite Anne Tyler book.

I have always enjoyed Anne Tyler's books, and find her style of writing easy to read. The characters quickly drew me in. Somehow, though, A Spool of Blie Thread left me feeling as if I wanted more (answers, that is). Also, who thought of this title? A stretch, I thought. It was not my favorite Anne Tyler.

Well, that was totally bizarre but also strangely satisfying. It's definitely a book that leaves an impression; and, by that I mean that I'm still trying to figure out how/if the characters/events relate to each other.

A must read for fans of Celeste Ng's book Everything I Never Told You

One of my favorite books. I just loved how the story starts (with the death) and slowly explains how it came about as you read. Any time I love a book or have a book club book I grab a summary guide. They help me get more out of the book and pick up on things I may have missed. Great look into the symbols found throughout the book. No spoilers but this should come packaged with the original. The chapter summary helped me notice things I didn't before. Fantastic story and a fantastic summary guide to Everything I Never Told You. Highly recommended!

Tragic Story Ends with Hope

I received this book in exchange for a review, and I really enjoyed reading it! This is a summary and analysis of Celeste Ng's "Everything I Never Told You" and is not the actual book. This review analyzes the story's characters as well as the book's themes. Even though it only took me about 15 minutes to read this summary and analysis, I felt like I got a good grasp on what the book is about. My favorite part of the review is the discussion on the theme of "The Power of Love." Even though the book is about a dysfunctional family with a tragic story, it ends with hope of a "new love" that can rescue the family.

Love These Books!

I had the paperback of this but don't have room so I am converting to mostly ebooks. Loved.this colection of very unique and often unusual takes on fairy tales.

and they're a delight to read

This is a well-curated anthology of short stories. The stories in here are all well-written and well-chosen, and they're a delight to read. I've always been a fan of 'adult' retellings of fairy tales, and this provides a lot of great quality ones. Most are short enough to read in short bursts.

The kindle formatting can be a little difficult sometimes; when the story shifts from one character's perspective to another, there's no line breaks to denote a change, so sometimes it can be a little hard to follow immediately. This is purely a formatting issue, though, and doesn't detract from the quality of the stories themselves.

Very nice work of the editor

Very nice work of the editor. There is something for everyone, different styles, different stories, even poetry. Which is it's only logical drawback - one can't please everyone. I believe most people will find most of the stories entertaining and interesting. Some of them are real pearls. Worth the money.

Superb

A deep and rich evocation of family. Anne Tyler creates yet another wonderful world full of the details that make fiction seem even more vivid than life. Ah, Tyler does it again! So satisfying and complete. Heart filled and sweeping extended family drama with unexpected forays and a good ending.

I honestly have no idea who would want to read about such a mondain subject matter.

If lituary books are about character and popular books are about plot, then this novel has failed spectacularily on both fronts.

I have listened to this book on audible as a professional narrator can bring a book alive. The narrator was very good, but where there is no plot, there is no plot. I have listened for 7 hours and there is no way I can go for another however many hours. In fact I can't bear nother 5 min of it. Why would anyone read about such an utterly unremarkable family? I did not get to like even one of the characters, every single one was just so plain that you could not even hate them. They merely irritate ! Its like spying on your neighbours through the bedroom curtains !

Seamless Sewing at it's Best!

I absolutely loved this book in all its multi-layered glory.Kimberly Farr does an exquisite job of the narration, each character's voice clearly resounding, making the story come alive.
