In this episode, we dive into the topic of wild animal suffering. Nature is home to countless animals, and with that comes countless sources of suffering—predation, starvation, injury, parasites, dehydration, natural disasters, and violence within species. When we consider the ethics of reducing suffering, it’s hard to ignore what happens in the wild. This is especially clear in r-selected species—those that produce a large number of offspring, most of whom die before reaching adulthood. Take turtles, for example: out of thousands of hatchlings, only a tiny fraction survive. The rest face slow and brutal deaths—from dehydration, starvation, or being eaten alive. This is the brutal reality for billions of animals in the wild—suffering on a scale we rarely think about, but perhaps should.#podcast #davidattenborough #wildlife #vegan
