Diandra Macarambon, Meranaw, Muslim, writer, teacher and LGBTQI rights activist. Follow her childhood memories of checking “attendance” in her mom’s office, never noticing the male lead stars in movies, being protective about her female friends and how it all made sense growing up. Listen to her story of self-discovery as she tried to make sense of her truth in an environment that reflected nothing of her reality back to her. But as one who would not stop till she finds an answer, she sought out books, the internet, and finding “salvation” from an American TV series. Finding that sliver of light, D has since gone on to find friends by first lurking, attending “prayer meetings” in coffee shops, getting to know fellow writers who validated her writing and who have in various ways supported her through her journey. And with a long lineage of distinguished pioneering women, Diandra continues the tradition, by helping young people come to terms with themselves and living with pride.
