In today's image, we see an example of a planetary nebula. This is the end state of a star much like our own Sun. The core has collapsed down to a white dwarf star while the outer layers have been expelled out into space. In this case, we are trying to understand the outer halo of the nebula to see what that tells us about the origins of these nebulae.

In today's image, we see a star forming region in the Carina Nebula. In a region like this stars and dust are in a battle - stars are forming from the dust while newly formed stars eat away at the dust. Eventually, the stars will win the battle and a new star cluster will be left.
