In today's image, we see an example of a planetary nebula which is the end state of a star much like our own Sun. The outer layers are expelled out into a ring while the core is compacted down to a white dwarf star.

In today's image, we see a video created from various still images taken by the Mars Express spacecraft in 2019 which give a view that we might see flying over the North Pole of Mars.

In today's image, we see the region of the sky around the constellations of Orion and Taurus. This is a prominent region of the winter sky and the long, 16-hour exposure, brings out much of the gas and dust that is present in this part of the sky.

In today's image, we see our Moon as it passes into Earth's shadow during a total lunar eclipse. The red color we see is cause by light that passes through Earth's atmosphere and into the shadow.

In today's image, we see the spiral galaxy IC 5332. We show it here in two images taken by different telescopes. The Hubble image, taken in visible/ultraviolet and the Webb image taken in the infrared. Each gives a different view of the structure of the galaxy.

In today's image, we see the Egg Nebula. This nebula shows what happens when a star like the Sun ends its life. The "yolk" (core) is hidden by dust, and the "white" (shells) surround this region and are the outer layers of the star being expelled out into space.

In today's image, we see the Pleiades star closer located in the constellation of Taurus. The long exposure allows us to see a lot of the dust surrounding the stars.
