In today's image, we see our moon as a thin, waning crescent. A thin cloud in Earth's atmosphere happens to be passing in front of our Moon, giving it a resemblance to the planet Saturn.

In today's image, we see the Galaxy group containing the spiral galaxy known as NGC 7771. The two larger spiral galaxies here are interacting and will eventually merge in to a single larger galaxy. The IFN refers to Integrated Flux Nebulae. These consist of dust slightly above the plane of our galaxy and are sometimes clawed galactic cirrus.

In today's image, we see the region around the South Pole of our Moon. The region is very heavily cratered. We can see a number of older craters which are becoming quite worn over billions of years and a relatively young crate with the prominent central peak still visible.

In today's image, we see the star forming region known as Messier 17. This is essentially a factory where stars are being created from the gas and dust in space, as the materials are pulled together under gravity.

In today's image, we see the Tulip Nebula, an emission nebula located in the constellation of Cygnus. Also in the image is the black hole known as Cygnus X-1. This is one of the closer black holes to Earth and one of the first confirmed to exist. The star is the companion star around the black hole.

In today's image, we see our moon passing in front of Saturn in what is called an occultation or eclipse. Because of the positioning, this will occur every month for the rest of the year and can be seen at specific locations on Earth.

In today's image, we see a video clip showing a number of the Perseid meteors from the shower in 2023. The meteors are small bits of a comet, left behind in its orbit, which are vaporized when it strikes Earth's upper atmosphere.

In today's image, we see the shadow cast by Earth setting opposite to the rising Sun which would be behind the observer here. The full moon, visible here, would be considered a supermoon, which occurs when the full moon occurs when the Moon is closest to Earth in its orbit.
