  • Wisdom From Above | James 3:13–18 | Pastor Alejandro Navarro

How can you tell the difference between worldly wisdom and the wisdom that comes from God?

In this message from Nashua Baptist Church, Pastor Alejandro Navarro continues through the book of James with “Wisdom From Above,” from James 3:13–18.

James teaches that genuine wisdom is not simply measured by how much we know. Biblical wisdom becomes visible in the way we live.

Wisdom from below is marked by bitter envy, selfish ambition, pride, disorder, and ultimately evil. It puts self at the center and asks who gets the credit, who gets recognized, and who wins.

But the wisdom that comes from above looks completely different.

It is pure, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, and sincere. It produces humility rather than pride, peace rather than conflict, and a life that increasingly reflects the character of Jesus Christ.

The question is not simply, “How much do I know?”

The deeper question is, “Is what I know making me more like Christ?”

Real faith shows up in a life shaped by wisdom from above.

  • Taming the Tongue | James 3:1–12 | Pastor Alejandro Navarro

How much damage can a few careless words really do?

In this message from Nashua Baptist Church, Pastor Alejandro Navarro continues through the book of James with “Taming the Tongue,” from James 3:1–12.

James shows us that our words carry enormous spiritual weight. A small bit can direct a horse. A small rudder can steer a large ship. A tiny spark can ignite a forest. In the same way, something as small as the tongue can direct a life, destroy relationships, and reveal what is happening in the heart.

Our words can worship God, encourage others, speak truth, and bring grace. But the same mouth can also gossip, insult, lie, wound, and tear people down.

James reminds us that controlling our speech is not simply about trying harder. The tongue must come under the control of God. As the Holy Spirit transforms our hearts, that transformation should increasingly be heard in the way we speak.

Real faith shows up in disciplined speech.

If Christ is Lord of our hearts, He must also be Lord of our tongues.

  • Faith Without Works Is Dead | James 2:14–26 | Pastor Alejandro Navarro

Can a person claim to have faith if nothing in their life ever changes?

In this message from Nashua Baptist Church, Pastor Alejandro Navarro continues through the book of James with “Faith Without Works Is Dead,” from James 2:14–26.

James makes one of the clearest statements in Scripture about the relationship between faith and works. We are not saved by our works. Salvation is by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. But genuine faith never remains alone.

    Real faith produces visible evidence.

James points to Abraham and Rahab as examples of people whose belief in God became visible through obedience. Their works did not earn salvation, but their actions demonstrated that their faith was real.

Simply believing that God exists is not enough. James reminds us that even the demons believe—and tremble. Biblical faith goes beyond knowledge, words, and religious claims. It changes how we live, how we obey, how we serve, how we sacrifice, and how we respond when God calls us to act.

Works are not the root of salvation. They are the fruit of living faith.

    Real faith shows up.

  • Mercy Triumphs | James 2:8–13 | Pastor Alejandro Navarro

What does it really look like to love your neighbor with the same mercy God has shown you?In this message from Nashua Baptist Church, Pastor Alejandro Navarro continues through the book of James with “Mercy Triumphs,” from James 2:8–13.James shows that favoritism is not merely bad manners or poor judgment. It is sin because it violates the royal law: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”God’s law cannot be divided according to our preferences. We do not get to obey the commands we like while dismissing the ones that confront us. Every believer lives accountable to God, and the freedom we have in Christ is not a license to sin, but freedom from slavery to sin so that we can live according to His will.James then brings the passage to its central truth: those who have received mercy should become merciful people. We do not show mercy because others deserve it. We show mercy because we did not deserve the mercy God gave us either. The cross removes every reason for superiority and reminds us that our only hope before a holy God is His grace through Jesus Christ.Real faith shows up when we love without partiality, take God’s commands seriously, and extend to others the mercy we ourselves have received.Mercy triumphs over judgment.Join us at Nashua Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.Sunday School — 9:45 AMSunday Morning Worship — 11:00 AMSunday Evening Worship — 6:00 PMWednesday Bible Study & Prayer — 7:00 PM11408 N Main StreetKansas City, MO 64155

  • No Room for Favoritism | James 2:1–7 | Pastor Alejandro Navarro

How should Christians treat people who look different, have less, or seem to have nothing to offer us?In this message from Nashua Baptist Church, Pastor Alejandro Navarro continues through the book of James with “No Room for Favoritism,” from James 2:1–7.James confronts the sin of partiality by showing how easily people can be judged by appearance, wealth, status, influence, or usefulness. But faith in Jesus Christ and favoritism do not belong together. The church cannot measure people by the standards of the world. The rich and the poor both come to Christ the same way—through grace. No one stands before God because of money, success, reputation, education, or social standing.James reminds us that God often honors those the world overlooks, and that every brother and sister in Christ has been purchased by the same blood.Real faith shows up in the way we value people. At the foot of the cross, there is no room for favoritism.Join us at Nashua Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.Sunday School — 9:45 AMSunday Morning Worship — 11:00 AMSunday Evening Worship — 6:00 PMWednesday Bible Study & Prayer — 7:00 PM11408 N Main StreetKansas City, MO 64155

  • Doers of the Word | James 1:19–27 | Pastor Alejandro Navarro

Is hearing God’s Word enough, or should it actually change the way we live?

In this message from Nashua Baptist Church, Pastor Alejandro Navarro continues through the book of James with “Doers of the Word,” from James 1:19–27.

James teaches that genuine faith does more than listen to sermons, know doctrine, or discuss Scripture. Real faith receives God’s Word with humility, obeys it consistently, and allows that obedience to become visible in everyday life.

We are called to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. We are also warned not to deceive ourselves by hearing the Word without doing what it says. Like someone who looks into a mirror and immediately forgets what he saw, a person can encounter the truth of Scripture yet walk away unchanged.

True obedience remains under the authority of God’s Word. It affects the way we speak, the way we care for people in need, and the way we pursue holiness in a world that constantly pulls us in another direction.

The evidence that we have truly heard God’s Word is not simply that we can repeat it. It is that our lives begin to reflect it.

Real faith shows up by being doers of the Word.

  • Do Not Be Deceived | James 1:13–18 | Pastor Alejandro Navarro

Where does temptation really come from, and why is it so dangerous to blame God for it?

In this message from Nashua Baptist Church, Pastor Alejandro Navarro continues through the book of James with “Do Not Be Deceived,” from James 1:13–18.

James makes a crucial distinction between trials and temptation. God may use trials to strengthen our faith, but He never entices us to sin. Temptation exposes the sinful desires already within us, and when those desires are allowed to grow, they give birth to sin—and sin, when fully grown, brings forth death.

The danger of temptation is deception. It shows us the pleasure and hides the price. It tells us to focus on what we might gain while ignoring what sin will eventually cost.

But James points us back to the unchanging goodness of God. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him. God is not our enemy in temptation. He is the faithful Father who gives life through His Word and calls us to trust that His ways are always better than what sin promises.

Real faith shows up by refusing to blame God, recognizing our own sinful desires, taking temptation seriously, and trusting the goodness of the Father.

Do not be deceived. God is good, sin is destructive, and God’s gifts are always better than sin’s promises.

  • Glory in What Lasts | James 1:9–12 | Pastor Alejandro Navarro

What really determines your worth—what you possess, what you accomplish, or who you belong to?

In this message from Nashua Baptist Church, Pastor Alejandro Navarro continues our study through the book of James with “Glory in What Lasts,” from James 1:9–12.

James challenges us to stop measuring life by temporary circumstances. The believer with little can rejoice in the position and identity he has in Christ, while the believer with much is reminded that wealth, status, success, and earthly accomplishments will eventually fade.

Our possessions cannot secure our identity, our righteousness, or our eternity. Money can be a useful servant, but it becomes dangerous when it becomes the foundation of our security or worth.

James points us beyond the fading flower of this world to the crown of life God has promised to those who love Him. Trials are temporary. Wealth is temporary. Status is temporary. But what God promises His people is eternal.

Whether we possess little or much, real faith learns to glory in what lasts.

  • Let Trials Finish Their Work | James 1:1–8 | Pastor Alejandro Navarro

Why does God allow trials, and how should Christians respond when life becomes difficult?

In this message from Nashua Baptist Church, Pastor Alejandro Navarro begins our study through the book of James with “Let Trials Finish Their Work,” from James 1:1–8.

James reminds us that trials are not meaningless. God can use testing to produce endurance, deepen our faith, and mature us into the people He is calling us to become. Rather than simply asking God to remove every hardship, believers are challenged to ask what He may be producing through it.

When we lack wisdom, James tells us to ask God—trusting His character, submitting to His will, and believing that He is faithful even when we do not fully understand what He is doing.

You may not understand everything God is doing, but you can trust the God who is doing it.
