  • Newsmax TV MidPoint Ed Berliner inteviewed Mark Henkel - Jan 2015

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed on Newsmax TV news show, MidPoint, with host Ed Berliner, on January 19, 2015. This network claims to be a conservative media outlet serving a conservative audience. The host introduced the topic with reference to a standard "slippery slope" statement by Senator Lindsey Graham, in a Senate committee hearing considering President Barack Obama's nominee for Attorney General, Loretta Lynch - that if same sex marriage can be legalized, so must polygamy. Mark Henkel answered the question with the perfect answer to easily persuade any actual conservative: limited government, the polygamy rights win-win solution. When asked if polygamy was still illegal, Mark Henkel again gave another perfect answer to easily persuade any actual conservative, even using his humorous sound-bite of the "liberal activist judges of the 1878 Supreme Court in the Reynolds v. United States case." The host then began what seems to be planned speech using wild hyperbole, such as claims of how polygamy supposedly is evil." As the host began the speech, someone at the network disconnected the skype access to Mark Henkel. The host's seeming speech sounds extremely prepared for suggesting this "disconnection" was supposedly a surprise. When Mark Henkel called back by phone, someone at the network disconnected that too. All the while, the host continued the same seemingly planned and prepared speech, saying that "someone, maybe a higher power" stopped the interview as if it was somehow something miraculous (or God-ordained). The host continued the seemingly prepared speech, asserting the supposed "slippery slope" argument of how polygamy is supposedly "so evil" 0- while conveniently not empowering Mark Henkel to eplxain otherwise.  While the host purported that they would bring Mark Henkel back in a future interview, the network had still not done so even more than years later.

  • The National Post - Canada - inteviewed Mark Henkel - July 2001

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed for The National Post, a national Canadian newspaper out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on July 16, 2001, by a Reporter named, Nate.  Just under 1 hour and 20 minutes, this interview was conducted in the pre-9/11 era of the Tom Green trial and sentencing.  This was one of the earlier media interviews, back when collecting details for each one was still being learned and systematized.  This comprehensively educational interview provided Mark Henkel's explanation of "the Tom Green problem" and the "daddy-daughter dynamic," Henkel's soundbite that "Christian polygamy does not mean Mormon Polygamy and polygamy does not mean Mormon," the history of the Christian Polygamy movement, the several Biblical argumentations, Henkel's separate home church unconnected to the movement, the history of early polygamy websites in the movement (and against it) back then when the first original owners owned such sites, the emergence of force polygamy and how the standard of love-not-force solved that problem, and so much more.  Mark Henkel even delineated the ancestries of Moses' two wives (the Shemitic Abrahamic Midiantess and the Hamitic Cushite wife).  As well, Mark Henkel gave a soundbite lyric from a song he had written back then, saying, "Too many Mommies, all alone / Raisin' babies, no daddy at home."  Henkel also declared, "The Tom Green case is really as destructive for us as Tim MacVeigh was for the militia movement."  Mark Henlel gave the historic soundbite, "The problem that Tom Green is creating is the potential of the anti-polygamist propaganda that is about to unleash a reign of terror on good, solid, polygamous families that are not configured in any way like the Tom Green case."   Lastly, Mark Henkel concluded, "We want to get the word out that polygamy does NOT mean what these things are." The Reporter replied, "You've done a very good job of that, getting out the word to me, anyway." Repeating that same sentiment a number of times throughout the interview, the Reporter concluded emphatically saying, "I very much appreciate talking to you, Mark.  It has been extremely illuminating."

  • The Me and Vinnie Show Sirius XM Stars Too interviewed Mark Henkel - Jan 2010

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed on "The Me And Vinnie" show with host, Vinnie Politan, on January 19, 2010.  The host occasionally shared the mic with the show's "newsman," Michael Billy.  The purposes of the interview sought, generally, to discuss UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, and, specifically, to discuss how the then-ongoing Perry v. Schwarzenegger case in California which was then-seeking to overturn Proposition 8 might impact polygamy rights. (Prop. 8 was a referendum passed by 52% of California voters in November 2008, amending the California State Constitution to add the following amendment, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.")  From the start of the interview, the host made it clear, saying, "I am pro-choice" as long as the polygamy involves consenting adults.  He asked many good questions which provided opportunities for Henkel to offer more of his repeated, known sound-bites.  Henkel also explained polygamy in the Bible.  The host's fellow "newsman" wanted to take religion out of the argument for marriage, citing how his fellow activists for same sex marriage sought to persuade scientific sources to advance the "born that way, not a choice" argument for getting same sex marriage approved (legally and socially).  The "newsman" then said, "You can't argue that polygamists are born that way...  "It's called being a guy, isn't it?"   Henkel did not accept that "pseudo-science" of the "born that way" argument because, as he said, it denies human choice based on genetics.  Thereby, Henkel agreed that polygamists would not use that argument of such "pseudo-science."  The discussion also asked how government could even construct legal rights for polygamists, as both the host and the "newsman" focused on the special rights that legally married people get from government and "how complicated" it would be for applying them to polygamy. Henkel gave the loaded sound-bite, "It only gets complicated by getting into bigger and bigger government... We have corporation law, partnership law, and we have differentiation of corporation: from profit, non-profit, and sub-chapter s.  We could simply create a corporation law" for polygamy.  The host humorously interjected, using his own name, "The Politan Family Corporation!"  The host concluded the interview, asking about the impacts on the children of UCAP polygamy families.  Henkel responded with the powerful sound-bite, "This is not a flinging thing, but rather a commitment thing.  So, this is an opportunity for children to thrive.  The issues that are negative for children are the tyranny of law against it."  In the end, Henkel, the host, and the "newsman" were in positive agreement about rights and freedom for Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy.  (NOTE: Later that year, on August 4, 2010, a US District Court overturned that "Prop. 8" of Perry v. Schwarzenegger.  The original Petitioners of Prop. 8 subsequently appealed to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and then on up to the Supreme Court in the case re-named as Hollingsworth v. Perry.  Ignoring any merits entirely, the Supreme Court, on June 26, 2013, remanded the case on a technicality of "legal standing," bringing the final decision-result to being the original District Court's decision of Perry v. Schwarzenegger 2010.)

  • ABC News Emily Friedman interviewed Mark Henkel - Sept 2007

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Emily Friedman for ABC News on September 13, 2007.  The reporter was respectful and positive throughout this 40-minute interview, even enjoying mutual laughter together.  Mark Henkel provided her with an extensive education about UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, the various forms, i.e., Christian Polygamy, Mormon Polygamy, Jewish Polygamy, Muslim Polygamy, and Secular Polygamy. He detailed numerous Biblical argumentations used by the new Christian Polygamy movement, explained the adamant opposition to criminals and cults (such as Tom Green, Warren Jeffs and the FLDS), and offered many important soundbites.  He even gave his renowned soundbite about the powerful lesson from Orwell's book, "1984," regarding how people often "commit an act of insanity in order to keep their sanity."  This episode is certainly one of the more succinctly informative interviews for those seeking a helpfully definitive education on the topic.

  • Associated Press AP post-interviewed Mark Henkel after nationwide article - Nov 2006

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was POST-interviewed on November 27, 2006, AFTER an article by the Associated Press (the AP Newswire) published nationwide on November 24, 2006. **This MUST-HEAR Interview*** is the third of 3 podcast audios regarding this article written by Reporter Jennifer Dobner.  This interview discussed Mark Henkel's reaction and feedback on the interview, noting his observation of the need to help correct the AP Stylebook on the issue of reporter's needing to be allowed to differentiate "Mormon Polygamy" as a term, because of the  mainstream "Mormons controlling the AP Stylebook." Mark Henkel gave the sound-bite, "The problem is, because the Mormon institution is controlling the definition, you can't say 'Non-Mormon Polygamist' because you can't say 'Mormon Polygamist.'"  This point re-affirmed the connection to the past interviews, over the previous several months, with this same AP Reporter, in which Mark Henkel had persistently and repeatedly sought to get the AP Newswire's reports to clarify that UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, normal pro-polygamists around the country, had never (and always have never) had anything to do with the criminals or cults such as Warren Jeffs and the FLDS.   This 3rd of these 3 podcast audios here reveals the friendly, professional, and even mutually laughing rapport between the reporter and Mark Henkel.  The Reporter agreed that it made sense to move forward in exploring how to get such accuracy changes into the AP Stylebook, for the purpose of ensuring better brevity.   She said, "It is a quagmire, I agree... ...I think it's a valid point... ...That's a really good suggestion, I'm writing it all down."  She later concluded, "Everything you say is good fodder for another story." For more information about these 3 audios, listeners will want to be sure to also listen to the 1st and 2nd of these three podcast audios, posted in the previous 2 podcast episodes before this one.

Over the previous several months, Mark Henkel had conducted numerous interviews with AP Reporter Jennifer Dobner. He persistently and repeatedly sought to get the AP Newswire's reports to clarify that UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, normal pro-polygamists around the country, had never (and always have never) had anything to do with the criminals or cults such as Warren Jeffs and the FLDS.  Finally, the reporter's bosses allowed her to write something about it.  The article was originally planned to be published over the weekend of November 18 or 19, 2006.  But as the Warren Jeffs hearings were set to conclude days later on Tuesday, November 21, 2006, the article was pushed back a week to be able add material based on that last hearing.  This 2nd of these 3 podcast audios here is an hour long.  This interview reveals the professionalism, comprehensive knowledge, humanity, compassion, even the empathy of both Mark Henkel and the Reporter.  This also includes many excellent sound-bites.  For more information about these 3 audios, listeners will want to be sure to also listen to both the 1st and the 3rd of these three podcast audios, posted in the subsequent 2 podcast episodes before and following this second one.

This 1st of these 3 podcast audios here presents the discussions by which the Associated Press photo shoot of Mark Henkel (in an "environmental portrait") was arranged with AP Photographers Doug Pizak (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Joel Page (Portland, Maine), specifically for this then-pending article.  For more information about these 3 audios, listeners will want to be sure to also listen to both the 2nd and the 3rd of these three podcast audios, posted in the subsequent 2 podcast episodes following this first one.

  • Overnight America KMOX NewsRadio 1120 interviewed Mark Henkel - March 2020

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed on Overnight America, hosted by Ryan Wrecker, on KMOX NewsRadio 1120, in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 4, 2020. The interview had been originally scheduled to focus on bigamy laws in general and on the then-new law that was being passed in Utah that reduced the charges of bigamy from a felony to an infraction for UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. The host began gaslighting from the beginning, mocking in doubt that the "purported clause" in bigamy laws really threatened anyone. After hearing different forms of polygamy identified, the host asked specifically about Christian Polygamy. As Mark Henkel explained how the Christian Polygamy movement made it possible for the overall larger UCAP movement, Henkel explained how Christians come to find the former.  Henkel explained the common experience of a number of Christians in numerous, various denominations: "When you really study the Bible, you discover it is an absolute impossibility to say that you believe in the Bible and that the Bible bans polygamy." From that point on, the host sought to continually gaslight or to try to trap Mark Henkel in specific answers. When Mark Henkel showed that the Parable of the Ten Virgins in Matthew 25:1-13 provided an example of the sinless Jesus Christ proverbially describing himself in polygamous terms, the host repeatedly gaslighted as if that obvious example of a polygamous wedding still somehow had nothing to do with polygamy, not even proverbially. Observing those tactics being attempted, Mark Henkel declared that he could see those would-be traps that the host was trying to set and that he would not be so trapped. He gave his sound-bite example that demonstrates how such traps work: "Have you finally stopped beating your loved ones with a jagged two-by-four, yes or no?" After hearing the host's repeated interruptions of "where in the New Testament" questions, Mark Henkel used his "airplane" soundbite to show the illogic. The host refused to get back on the main topic of law. Instead, the host consumed the rest of the time on gaslighting the Biblical issues to slander Mark Henkel,  to repeatedly call him crazy, and even to tell the audience that the host believed that Mark Henkel was "one of those people" who deliberately misleads people with mis-readings of Scripture; the host repeatedly emphasized that that was "so dangerous."  After the interview, the host took back-patting callers and he used that to directly slander Mark Henkel.  Hearing the continued discussion online in real-time, Mark Henkel tweeted how the host had put words in his mouth again.  The host read the tweet on-air and then re-played previous audio which actually proved that Mark Henkel was correct about the host's falsehood - yet the host still gaslighted otherwise.  As such, seven additional minutes have been added to this podcast episode in order to re-wind and re-play the spoken parts, full quoted contexts, and the mentioned twitter thread (see: https://twitter.com/MHenkelPolygamy/status/1235418614418661378 ). This additional ending portion of the podcast episode proves that, not only were the host's gaslighting efforts evident, and not only were the host's claims false regarding what Mark Henkel had said, but those statements by the host might even likely be legally-pursuable as charges of slander.  Consequently, this hostile interview has been transformed into an attention-grabbing yet positive exposition. This is a must-hear interview!

  • Mark Henkel persisted for interview with Associated Press AP - Sept 2006

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel persisted with Jennifer Dobner, on September 15 and 17, 2006, to find a way to reach different Associated Press state offices when national news cycles emerge that pertain to UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy.  This was in response to the national news cycle that Nevada's US Senator Harry Reid had called for a federal investigation into all polygamous families in the Western States on September 12, 2006.  Jennifer Dobner was from the Utah AP office and did not do work on those stories as it pertained to Nevada, although she did tend to be the de facto interoffice-source when other AP state offices needed information about polygamy.  This interview reveals how the Manufactured News system was not conducive to allowing actual news & stakeholder sources of the topic (herewith, polygamy on the national level) to be included in national stories directly about their topic. The reporter was friendly and was sincerely trying to find a solution, though.

  • Portland Phoenix Jeff Inglis interviewed Mark Henkel - Nov 2009

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was interviewed by Jeff Inglis, the Managing Editor for The Portland Phoenix newspaper, in Portland, Maine, on November 13, 2009. This interview occurred 10 days after Maine voters, by a "People's Veto" referendum in a mid-term election, repealed a new same sex marriage law. (NOTE:, same sex marriage later became legalized "again" in Maine by the nationwide US Supreme Court decision of Obergefell v. Hodges on June 26, 2015). For all of this, Mark Henkel had written an op-ed about how the law was neither about "Marriage Protection" nor about "Marriage Equality," and he was waiting for whether the statewide daily newspaper (Portland Press Herald / Maine Voices) would publish it. The Portland Press Herald's new owner/CEO and Editor Richard Conner refused to publish it.  (That Summer, Conner had replaced the then-terminated previous Editor John Porter. Two years after that, Conner himself, also left the, being accused by the same newspaper for misusing over $530,000 of company funds for his own personal use.)  Conner’s refusal thereby opened the opportunity for the weekly newspaper, The Portland Phoenix, to show "the article that the Press Herald was too afraid to publish." The Managing Editor of this weekly newspaper, The Portland Phoenix, loved this idea. In this interview, Mark Henkel exposed the “positive but passive aggressiveness” of The Portland Press Herald's main conservative opinion writer Michael (M.D.) Harmon *who knew of Henkel for the previous 3 years, yet never once allowed Henkel to be reported or to be published), the hypocrisy of the Portland Press Herald’s main liberal opinion writer Bill Nemitz (who directly knew about Mark Henkel with a press kit and yet still acted as if Henkel did not exist, even while writing a story very similar to one of Mark Henkel’s known soundbites), and the outright hateful bigotry of  same sex marriage advocate Mary Bonauto (who publicly had made highly bigoted-statements about unrelated consenting adult polygamy, and who also would later be one of the attorneys who presented before the US Supreme Court for the Obergefell v. Hodges Decision of June 26, 2015, that legalized same sex marriage nationwide). Mark Henkel explained how the article offered the solution by which either losing side in the same sex marriage can go forward, save face, and achieve a win for all sides: The Polygamy Rights Win-Win Solution. He explained that, as the politically liberal side had then just lost the "People's Veto" vote 10 days previously, he recommended that they should actually learn from Mark Henkel's arguments to instead "use conservative arguments to persuade conservatives."  Mark Henkel provided numerous soundbites and educational points. Also, the interview flow and mood was very friendly, respectful, and even fun with both Henkel and the Managing Editor laughing a number of times - all making this a must-hear interview. The Managing Editor of The Portland Phoenix published Henkel’s article that next week, the one that the Portland Press Herald had been too afraid to publish. This provides another example of how the big Manufactured News Corporations do not report the news, but they instead decide what they will and will not let the public read  or even learn about in their media sources.
