It was a pretty interesting 2017 trade deadline as 7 trades were made on Thursday, and 12 were made in the past five days. The bro Anthony and I discuss all of the trades including the blockbuster DeMarcus Cousins deal between New Orleans and Sacramento. Also discussed on the pod were the deadline deals made and not made by Eastern Conference upper crusters Washington, Boston and Toronto. As the trade deadline rapidly approaches, the bro Anthony and I discuss the two trades made this past week. First, we discussed the Serge Ibaka-Terrence Ross deal and what impact Ibaka makes in Toronto as the Raptors look to recover from a recent swoon. We talk about how the trade allows Aaron Gordon to move to the four and could re-energize Ross. Also discussed is the Plumlee-Nurkic deal and how Plumlee fits with Nikola Jokic in Denver. This edition of the NBA Trades Podcast features a deep look into the three Js era of the Dallas Mavericks with former Mavericks beat writer Brad Townsend. Brad covered the Mavericks from 1993-1997 for the Dallas Morning News and was there for some of the more explosive moments in the Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd and Jim Jackson partnership.  We spoke about Dallas’ hiring of Quinn Buckner not working out during the 1993-94 season, the Derek Harper trade, Dallas’ 2-39 start during Brad’s first time covering the team. We then went into the improvement of the team under Dick Motta, the chemistry falling apart in 1996, the Toni Braxton drama after the 1995-96 season and the eventual trades of all three players after new ownership arrived. One of the larger trades of this offseason was the three-team deal involving Indiana sending George Hill to Utah, and the Atlanta Hawks sending Jeff Teague to the Pacers. I had 8 Points, 9 Seconds editor Ben Gibson on to talk about the acquisition of Teague and understand where the Pacers are at with a 13-12 record at the 25-game mark of the season.  We delved into George Hills’s strong season in Utah, the blah pairing of Teague and shooting guard Monta Ellis, the growth of Myles Turner, Paul George’s performance so far and the death of the Jordan meme. In a very confusing way, the trade of guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers, allowed the New Orleans Hornets to rebuild and draft Anthony Davis. I had New Orleans Advocate Pelicans reporter Scott Kushner on the podcast to talk about that time the NBA nixed the Chris Paul deal to the Lakers and later allowed a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers. Scott and I discussed the five-year anniversary of the Chris Paul trade. We went in depth on the magical run of the 56-26, 2007-08 Hornets, where New Orleans went wrong with building the team and all of the things that led to Paul eventually wanting to leave the team. We then talked about which trade was the better of the Clippers and Lakers and the Hornets post-Chris Paul. Eventually, the conversation shifted to the current Pelicans team and star Anthony Davis and the ticking clock on New Orleans building the right team around their star so he will want to stay by the time of his second free agency period. The Los Angeles Lakers were poised to continue their dynasty after acquiring point guard Chris Paul in a three-team trade with the New Orleans Hornets and Houston Rockets right after the 2011 NBA lockout. The Lakers were giving up a bounty in Lamar Odom to New Orleans and Pau Gasol to Houston. Soon after the deal was agreed to, commissioner David Stern and the NBA — acting as owner for the Hornets while the franchise looked to find an owner — blocked the deal. A few days later, Paul was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.  This edition of the NBA Trades podcast delves into all that happened in that time. To help explain this whirlwind of a story is ESPN Senior Writer Ramona Shelburne. Ramona covered both the Lakers and Clippers for ESPN at that time and wrote a great piece a couple of months after the dust had settled on the trade recapping everything had happened. Ramona and I discussed what happened when the news broke when the Lakers acquired Chris Paul, and when it became official that Stern had nixed the deal. We also talked the Clippers acquiring Paul, and how this deal affected both franchises. Download Episode 20

After 14 games, the Knicks are 7-7 and still have a lot of questions. Chicago is 9-6 and looking to build on a good start. Both teams made a huge trade in the Summer involving Derrick Rose.  That’s where the NBA Trades podcast comes in. My bro Anthony and I spoke about how Derrick Rose is faring in his new digs in NYC. We talked about the growth of Kristaps Porzingis, Carmelo Anthony fading to the background and why the Knicks are still a mess despite a recent winning streak.  We also discussed the Chicago Bulls and How Robin Lopez has really helped the Bulls function with his offensive rebounding.
