US airlines introduce no-frills Basic Economy

The largest US domestic airlines are rewriting the book on budget fares. The latest development is a new cheap-fare option that also does away with luggage in overhead lockers. American Airlines says passengers opting for the Basic Economy fares can bring only one carry-on item that fits under the seat in front of them. They won’t be allowed to use the overhead bin and will be charged $US25 for each checked in bag.
