NC Schools of Thought

This episode of NC Schools of Thought is the first in a series focused on NC’s 2026 election, featuring a live recording of a panel discussion held in September at NC Central University as part of an event titled “Our Community, Our Kids, Our Schools.”

This event was hosted by a coalition of groups championing Durham Public Schools. Panelists Alexandra Sirota of the NC Budget & Tax Center, Representative Zack Hawkins of NC’s District 31, and Public School Forum Associate Director of Policy Sara Howell, discussed the potential impact of tax amendments NC voters will see on their ballots this year. If passed, these amendments could severely limit the future ability of our state and local governments to respond to ever evolving needs.
