2 Reasons for Christ's Preeminence in Everything:

Current title: THE BEGINNING, FIRSTBORN OF THE DEAD

Future event: PREEMINENT, FIRST PLACE IN ALL THINGS

1. The reconciliation of EVERYTHING (1:19-20)

a) Full deity in the Son

b) Full reconciliation of everything

RECONCILIATION: God, at great personal cost, will gather the universe to Christ to make right the wrong.

8 Marks of Christ's Supremacy Over All Creation:

1. Jesus is fully God & MAN (v15)

2. Jesus' superiority to ALL CREATION (v15)

3. HIS DESIRE & HIS WILL motivated Jesus to create (v16)

4. Jesus created ALL THINGS (v16)

5. Creation's PURPOSE is Jesus (v17)

6. Jesus does not have a BEGINNING (v17)

7. Jesus holds the whole WORLDS in His hands (v17)

8. Jesus is the HEAD of the church (v18)

1. Man's Sin

a) Total depravity (Rom 3:10-13)

c) Mixed condition (Rom 12:2)

2. God's Sovereignty

a) In an unbeliever's salvation (Rom 10:17; Col 1:13)

b) In a believer's sanctification (Phil 2:13)

3. God's Provisions

a) The Holy Spirit

i) Conviction of sin (Jn 16:9)

ii) Illuminator of Scriptures (1 Cor 2:11-12)

b) the Bible

i) Wholeness that transforms the soul (Ps 19:7a)

ii) Reliability that causes wisdom (Ps 19:7b)

iii) Uprightness that brings joy (Ps 19:8a)

iv) Clarity that illumines understanding (Ps 19:8b)

v) Purity that endures forever (Ps 19:9a)

vi) Truth that stands upright (Ps 19:9b)

c) The Church (Acts 20:28; 1 Tim 3:15)
