NearFM’s Debbie McMahon was joined on lifeline by Toni Breen, founder of mental health awareness and support group ‘Candles in the Dark’. Toni talks about mental health in adolescents, the signs and symptoms to look out for and what help is actually available. Debbie began by asking Toni to tell us about the origins of the organisation.

Dundalk FM’s Pat Byrne spoke to Victoria McArdle this week about a new app available called Be My Eyes, designed to enable sighted people to assist the visually impaired.

The School of Medicine at NUI Galway is conducting the ASPIRE study, which aims to involve patients in improving the safety of care in general practise. The Study Seeks Participants who have experienced a Medical Error under GP care nationwide, to take part in interviews about their experience. Caoimhe Madden, the researcher who is leading the study spoke to Eoghan Holland of Flirt FM. Eoghan began by asking Caoimhe what actually constitutes as a medical error.

On the edition of NearFM’s Beyond the Backpage, Patrick Donoghue was joined by triathelete Ger Redmond who told us about his incredible life story and his journey from serving time in prison to now being a professional athlete. Ger began by explaining how he started his remarkable journey into this discipline in 2017.

As 2020 gets underway and Operation Transformation is once again on our TV screens, George Mulcahy was joined on Lifeline by Professor Carel le Roux, Obesity Physician, St Vincent’s Hospital and IrSPEN Spokesperson where they discuss Obesity and our attitudes towards it. Professor le Roux began by defining exactly what is meant by obesity.

The National Adult Literacy Agency is calling on election candidates and the press to use ‘plain English’ in their campaigns ad coverage, Eoghan Holland of Flirt FM speaks to Patrick Gleeson of the National Adult Literacy Agency. Eoghan began by asking what work N.A.L.A do in the area of adult literacy.
