At the end of chapter 1, Jesus is selecting those who will be His disciples. Each one of them is unique and teaches us that Jesus extends His grace in all sorts of ways to all sorts of people. Everything John the Baptist said and did pointed people to the Messiah; that was the work God had given him. When Jesus came along, John's primary mission was complete. He would decrease, but Christ would increase. The 2 things John said about Jesus that are most striking are these: 1) Jesus is the Lamb of God; and 2) Jesus is the Son of God. Before John gives us an account of the life of Jesus of Nazareth, he makes it clear who it is that he is writing about. Jesus is the logos of eternity, the eternal, only-begotten Son of the true and living God. Exodus has been called, "The Gospel According to Moses," and every page points us to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.
