In 1976, Circleville, Ohio, was terrorized by anonymous letters revealing personal details about residents' lives, with school bus driver Mary Gillespie as the primary target, accused of an affair with superintendent Gordon Massey. The situation escalated when Mary's husband, Ron, died in a suspicious car accident after receiving a threatening call. In 1983, a booby trap intended for Mary was discovered and linked to her brother-in-law, Paul Freshour, who was convicted of attempted murder despite dubious evidence.
