Quint Studer has made a career and a life of sharing insight, advice, and encouragement. He has been a teacher, leader, author, speaker, and entrepreneur. He now works tirelessly to serve the healthcare community as it finds the new "normal" post Covid. In this episode he shares insight about how the healthcare community moves forward, what he's learned as a baseball team owner, and as always, the "best advice he's ever heard."
Marty Rash is well known in the Nashville healthcare and entrepreneurial circles. He has founded and run two national hospital companies – Province Healthcare and RegionalCare Hospital Partners, he was worked with numerous other healthcare organizations, and has served on and chaired numerous corporate boards.
I had the good fortune to work for Marty at both Province and RegionalCare and knew some of his story, but it was great in this conversation to learn more about his growing up in a small town in Tennessee and how those experiences shaped his approach to care and culture and the importance of making sure that quality healthcare is available in rural and non-urban communities across the country.
Before we get to Marty’s great “Need to Know” advice and the story behind it, he shares some insight and thoughts on the state of the national healthcare landscape, the impact of Covid on our health are community, and looks ahead to what might be coming down the road.
Great conversation with Mike and Missy Wilson, founders and leaders of My Life Speaks, an organization doing amazing work In Haiti.
In this episode, we discuss how their life raising a disabled son has shaped their life, their family, and ultimately their work in Haiti. Their advice, born out of their work, is about how everyone's "Life Speaks, even without words."
Dr. Victor and Eileen Ko are the parents of five children and live in the Philadelphia area. In this episode of the Need to Know we discuss the importance of "Beginning with the end in mind" and the value of having a plan for all the important areas of your life.
In this episode of the Need to Know podcast we talk with Anna Love, the co-founder and CEO of Stoked.
Anna and her firm do amazing work with leading companies in lots of different fields, and she took their "design thinking" approach to her "best piece of advice" ever in that she crowd-sourced it, with her children.
Her suggestion to "Know what rules to break" is incredibly important as both a parent and a leader. Both involve "art" AND "science" - the key is knowing which to apply in which situation. Anna shares great insight on how to navigate the fine line between the two.
Here's a simple exercise (from Need to Know for Newlyweds) for newlyweds, or frankly anyone, to do at the end of the day.
Ask yourself one question, "did I make life better or worse for my spouse today?"
The answer to that question should shape tomorrow.
As we reach the end of what is likely the most challenging school year since well...forever I think its important that we take a minute to tell your teachers thanks.
So thank your current teachers (most likely parents or loved ones this year....) or precious teachers (Here's to you Mrs. Stanker from Pennwood Middle School) for the work they did to get you where you are today.
This thought comes from the OG Need to Know.

Charu has been named to the Forbes "30 Under 30" list, graduated with highest honors from Georgia Tech, and OX recently received $3.5 million in seed funding to support their growing initiatives.
This conversation is really a reminder to me about that value of advice and the importance of words.
Baylor Barbee is best selling author, speaker, podcast host, business consultant, and endurance athlete.
In this episode of the Need to Know podcast we learn about the best advice he ever got - which came to Baylor while his was waiting to start a marathon.

In this episode of the Need to Know podcast Dr. Williams offers his best piece of advice "Lead with a smile."
