On this day, last year, I was actually in Sicily and most likely drinking a glass of Nero D'Avola, the star of the show today.  Tonight we are tasting the 2016 International Eastern Wine Competition's Silver Award-winning wine from Villa Amoroso. Villa Amoroso is located in Tuscany but the grapes are from Sicily. Nero D'Avola is the most widely grown grape in Sicily which has an IGT classification, which stands for Indicazione Geografica Tipica. It is the 3rd classification out of 4 of the Italian government wine distinctions.

This is not a wine that likes to be alone. It is to be enjoyed with spaghetti and meatballs or can be paired with some Mediterranean dishes. You can find a bottle between $12 to $17. Nero D'Avola is full of plum, tobacco, chocolate, and spice,
