  • Heavy Hearts (8 of 9)

In this sermon, we delve into Ezekiel 37's "Valley of Dry Bones," a powerful vision that underscores God's immense power to restore and redeem His people. We explore the context of Israel's exile in Babylon and how God preserved His people despite their despair. In this section of scripture we find highlighted the themes of judgment and hope, the promise of a new shepherd, and the transformation of hearts. We also connect this vision to the broader meta-narrative of Scripture—Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration—and see its prophetic fulfillment both near and far. The message parallels the gospel, emphasizing spiritual death and resurrection, and God's power to give life. Through this exploration, we are encouraged to trust in God's promises, forsake self-reliance, and embrace the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit.

    Question for considerations:

    - How does the vision of dry bones challenge your understanding of spiritual death and God's power to bring life?

In this session, we continue our series on Ezekiel, exploring chapters 3-5 and 12-13, where Ezekiel's symbolic acts vividly portray themes of judgment, repentance, and God's patience. These acts include lying on his side or extended periods of time, consuming a revolting diet, shaving his hair, digging through a wall, and eating while trembling. Through these odd expressions, we examine God's measured patience, the necessity of judgment, the fulfillment of prophecy, and the trustworthiness of God's Word.

    Questions for Consideration:

    - How does understanding God's measured patience impact your view of His character?

    - How can we ensure that we are not misusing or misinterpreting God's Word?

Join us as we continue our summer series on the book of Ezekiel by exploring chapter 3 the concept of the "watchman's responsibility."

Ezekiel was called to be a prophet during the Babylonian captivity, a time when Israel was in exile. Unlike Daniel, who served in the palace, Ezekiel lived among the exiles. God gave Ezekiel a scroll filled with lamentation, mourning, and woe, which he was instructed to eat. This act symbolized internalizing God's message deeply, making it a part of himself.

God warned Ezekiel that his mission would be difficult; the people of Israel were stubborn and would not listen. Yet, Ezekiel was held responsible for delivering God's message regardless of their response.
