How can one reconcile Indigenous traditions with a Christian faith? Elissa Nenakowekapo shares her journey of preserving cultural heritage while embracing her spiritual beliefs. Highlighting her unique spiritual experience, Elissa expresses how a personal, unrestricted relationship with God transcends the confines of conventional worship. Wendi Park guest hosts todays interview with Jim Thunder where he gets up close and personal about his own journey of authenticity with his faith and culture. They reflect on Pope Francis' recent visit to Canada and Jim offers some valuable insights into history, compelling listeners to participate in reconciliation.
Jim is an Oji-Cree Asper MBA graduate from Sachigo Lake, Ontario in Treaty 9 territory. He grew up in Sioux Lookout Ontario and completed two undergraduate degrees at Horizon College and Seminary and Providence University College and Seminary. While completing his Master’s Degree in Business administration he focused his electives on courses that facilitated an exploration of his Indigenous identity and on the political and economic origins that shaped the current disparities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
As an MBA student he was invited by the late Dr. John Loxley to conduct research on the synergies between Indigenous cultures and the cooperative model in order to encourage urban economic development Initiatives that respect the self-determination of Indigenous peoples.
He also teaches a required course at his alma mater Horizon College and Seminary as part of the college’s response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s call to action 60.

Peter Tigchelaar is a musician and business owner from Hamilton, Ontario. He was born into a musical family and has been writing and performing music for most of his life. He has a deep love for Jesus and the Church, but has also experienced the Church's hypocrisy and falseness first-hand. Despite this, he continues to follow Jesus and be a part of the Church, because he believes in its potential to bring reconciliation and healing to the world.
