I know I'm late to the party. But maybe it's deeper than you realize... at the same time, it's not that deep.
I don't think they're being intentionally malicious, perhaps just distastefully ignorant.
For example, did you know that there are many bodies of literature that make the comparison of Dionysus and Jesus?
Are my points valid? let me know!
This was a sermon I preached to my Youth Group in July.
We ponder the question: what does it mean to follow Jesus? what do we give up? why would we give it up? What do we get in return?
For some reason, I have had to deal with most emotional problems under the sun... Here we talk about perfectionism, it's grip and how sucky it is to live this way.
I also go on a rant about how greed is the root of the de-beautification of everything good in this world. All in only 10 quick minutes!
Are you free to choose? Has your story been plotted out by an author?
Perhaps both... We'll go through various ideas and theories to tackle this problem.
Two main theories surround tackling the proverb "Man Makes Plans, but God Determines his Steps" and an idea that is original to me... The Spectrum of Freedom... come find out what all of this means for the next half hour!
I did not cover anything about soteriology: the doctrine of salvation. Just our day to day lives. If you're curious about that or have any other theories about this, share! I love munching on new ideas!
Enjoy!
I have so much compassion for the people who don't belong and I've spent a lot of time praying and wrestling with scripture to understand: Why?..
Here I only scratch the surface of what I've meditated on in regards to the LGBTQ community. All we can do is go deeper and get more nuanced to what's going on. I compare Christians to Trans by this one thing:
Both groups don't identify with their flesh. I don't condone or condemn but we have to see that maybe we have more in common than we think.
I go step by step hoping to reconcile. I don't know how useful or hateful this is, but let me know kindly.
This is about as real as I can get... I think.. what should I go deeper on or talk about?
Here I talk about the three times I got burned by the church. What this means is that people in the church, whether leaders or congregants, acted in an abusive, destructive or at least a hurtful manner. The three are: My dad's old theology, a messy situation with a crush, and the last one was parent's as I led the youth ministry (I still lead the ministry).
The last one was only made aware to me months later in therapy with a christian therapist. It made me contemplate on all the pastors that are tired of being bullied for doing the right thing... My heart goes out to every pastor that is hurt by their church but we can't stop and slow down! and we should have grace with these pastors!
