I share reflections from my time teaching in Tanzania and unpack how neocolonial narratives are embedded in international development and humanitarian aid, reinforcing problematic power dynamics while undermining the agency and autonomy of local communities.

Is it even possible to reform these systems? And what does it mean to decolonize ourselves and reshape the narratives we’ve internalized about who needs to be saved and who is meant to do the saving?
