The day-to-day status of negotiations may be touch and go but it looks like the Trump administration is doing everything it can to reach a deal and end the conflict with Iran. The war may have had solid support from Donald Trump’s Fox News-oriented voters but remained unpopular with the rest of the country. The conflict lost Trump several high-profile supporters but it did earn him the favor of a set of political operators who had previously despised him. Several opponents who had declared themselves “Never Trump” suddenly discovered a strange new respect for the president once they believed he was willing to launch regime change wars in the Middle East. Those fair-weather allies are now melting down in an epic fashion over the prospect of peace between America and Iran.
